The concept of lean inspection refers to an inspection process or operation where all of the wastes have been removed.

That means eliminating all wasted motions, process steps, time, etc… The Orion system was developed around this lean concept. “Load and Go Gauging” means the operator’s involvement is kept to a minimum. Simply load the part, scan a serial number or press enter, and the workstation does the rest. The time required to inspect the product is typically under 10 seconds. Analysis is instantaneous, as the software performs all the necessary calculations and provides the user with and easy to interpret report.

The driving concept behind Lean Inspection is to keep the machinist and the machine in the cut, not at the inspection station.

Most companies aren’t paid to inspect their products, they’re paid to manufacture them. By keeping the machines in the cut, you will improve your throughput. By keeping the machinists informed about their process control, you will improve your yields. Proper implementation of a Lean Inspection system will give you the advantage you need to remain ahead of the competition.
